Under the Mangosteen Tree brings to the stage the unforgettable world of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer -  one of Kerala’s most beloved writers, and one whose roots lie right here in Kottayam.

Created and performed by Perch, Chennai, the play weaves together Basheer’s stories into a warm, funny and deeply human world of love, longing, friendship, family and community. Predominantly in English, with the flavour and rhythms of Basheer’s Kerala very much intact, it is theatre that is accessible, intimate and full of life.

First staged in 2008 and performed to audiences across India for nearly two decades, Under the Mangosteen Tree is now on its farewell tour,  making its Kottayam performance an especially lovely homecoming.
